What are Braces?

Orthodontic braces are devices used to align and straighten teeth, improve bite, and enhance overall dental health and appearance. Braces consist of brackets, which are bonded to the teeth, and wires, which are threaded through the brackets and adjusted to apply gentle pressure to move the teeth into the desired position.

Braces can be made from a variety of materials, including metal, ceramic, and clear plastic. They are typically worn for several months to a few years, depending on the individual needs of the patient. Braces can correct a variety of dental problems, such as crooked teeth, overcrowding, overbite, underbite, and gaps between teeth.

Metal Braces

Metal orthodontic braces are the traditional and most common type of braces used for teeth alignment. They consist of small metal brackets, which are attached to the teeth using a special adhesive, and a thin metal wire that runs through each bracket.  Over time, the wire is tightened and adjusted to apply gentle pressure to the teeth and gradually move them into the desired position.

Metal braces are very effective at correcting a wide range of dental issues and are generally less expensive than other types of braces. They are also very durable and can withstand a lot of wear and tear. However, they are more visible than other types of braces and require proper care and cleaning to prevent tooth decay and other dental problems.

Clear Braces

Clear orthodontic braces, also known as ceramic braces, are similar to metal braces but the brackets are made from clear or tooth-colored ceramic material that blends in with the teeth. This makes them less noticeable than traditional metal braces and more aesthetically pleasing, especially for patients who are self-conscious about wearing braces. The brackets are bonded to the teeth using a special adhesive and a thin metal wire is threaded through each bracket to apply gentle pressure and move the teeth into the desired position.

Clear braces are a good option for patients who want to achieve the benefits of traditional braces but with a more subtle appearance.
